Meet Jessica Kjeldsen
We recently connected with Jessica Kjeldsen and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jessica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Feral Attuned is about coming home to yourself—the version of you that moves without hesitation, that trusts the pull, that feels deeply attuned to something bigger than words.
It’s not about learning something new; it’s about remembering. Remembering how your body speaks before your mind overanalyzes. How movement can be a release, a revelation, a way back to yourself.
This isn’t about perfect form or rigid routines. It’s about feeling—really feeling—where you’re holding back, where you need to soften, where you’re ready to step fully into your power.
You already have everything you need. Your body knows the way.
As the founder of Feral Attuned, I spent most of my life stacking habits like they were the key to some ultimate version of myself—chasing the next thing that promised to fix my waistline, my productivity, my appearance. If there was a magic potion for better, I was trying to drink it.
But the more I chased the new, the more I lost me. And if I was getting buried under all these routines, trends, and things I was supposed to do, I knew I couldn’t be the only one. So many of us are running down the same winding road, constantly looking for the thing—only to realize the last thing was apparently bad for us, so now we need a new thing, and on and on it goes.
Until I finally stopped.
I think most of us have a burnout story, and mine came after surviving eight rounds of layoffs, six boss changes, and having to fire my entire team—not because I wanted to, but because I wasn’t about to let a stranger do it to the people I had spent years building with.
So, I slowed down.
For most of my career—okay, 20 years—I’ve been a creative brand strategist. But I’m also a Reiki Master and a Group Fitness Instructor (think: yoga, pole dancing, dance fitness—you name it, I’ve probably taught it). And somewhere in that space, it hit me:
Energy healing and movement are more than just practices. They’re portals. When you tap into both, you don’t just move—you unlock. You uncover the deeper layers of your own story. And when you do that, you’re not just building a brand. You’re embodying it.
Feral Attuned is where creativity meets purpose, where movement rewires the way you see yourself, and where visionaries come to craft identities that don’t just exist—they captivate, connect, and inspire. It’s is what happens when you stop running and start listening—because the answer was never out there. It was always in you.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I feel like I’ve lived many lives.
It all started at 18, working in the music industry as a Lifestyle Marketing Rep—immersed in culture, creativity, and the art of storytelling. That passion evolved into brand design, where I shaped identities for some of New York City’s most influential nonprofit cultural institutions. Eventually, I found myself leading as a Creative Brand Director, building unshakable brands that weren’t just aesthetically strong but deeply resonant.
For over a decade, I ran my own studio, Dead Medium Design, crafting brands from behind the scenes. But in 2016, the first glimmer of Feral Attuned appeared—a vision that felt less like a business idea and more like a calling.
At my core, I’m driven by three passions:
Storytelling – It fuels my brand strategy and design work, helping businesses articulate who they are in a way that captivates and connects.
Movement – As a fitness instructor for 15+ years, I’ve always believed that the body holds wisdom our minds often overlook.
Intuitive Healing – With a decade as a Reiki Master, I know that true transformation happens on an energetic level, beyond words and visuals.
For years, I was convinced I could merge these worlds—branding, movement, and healing—into something powerful. But getting corporate brand clients to participate in a movement or Reiki session? That was a harder sell. So for a long time, Dead Medium remained a branding agency that also had Reiki clients and taught at local gyms on the side.
Feral Attuned is the bridge I was searching for. It’s where creative strategy meets embodiment, where movement and energy work unlock the deepest parts of your story, and where brand-building isn’t just about messaging—it’s about alignment.
I’m most proud of the way I help people and brands step into their fullest expression—whether through an unforgettable visual identity, a movement practice that shifts something inside them, or an energetic reset that clears the path forward. Because at the end of the day, branding, like healing, isn’t about adding more. It’s about uncovering what’s already there.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Feral Attuned started as a side hustle, and she’s still growing—more and more every day. Truth be told, she’s still on her way to becoming the full hustle, but right now, we’re in the building phase.
For years, it was just a feeling. A pull. An idea that wouldn’t let go. I had already built a career in branding, storytelling, and design. I had spent over a decade as a fitness instructor and Reiki practitioner, always weaving movement and energy work into my life. But turning it into something tangible? That took time. A long time.
For over 10 years, I ran Dead Medium Design, crafting brands by day while seeing Reiki clients on the side. But something kept calling to me. I knew branding wasn’t just about visuals or messaging—it was about alignment. And alignment doesn’t happen on a mood board. It happens in the body, in energy, in the way we move through the world.
In 2024, Feral Attuned finally took shape. It stopped being just an idea and started becoming something real—a space where movement, energy, and creative strategy intersect to help people and brands step fully into who they are. It started as a weekly movement class on Saturday mornings, then grew into intentional pop-ups, and before I knew it, I was facilitating Feral experiences at the Shine retreat in Tulum.
Last year, I leaned all the way in—exploring every avenue to see how these offerings could connect and support each other. I introduced Goodnight Reiki, an $8 virtual distance Reiki and meditation experience that happens on the third Sunday of every month. The idea? Let me tuck you into bed. Allow me to guide you into a beautiful sleep, supported by Reiki healing energy. It’s an accessible way for new clients to experience this work while still providing a deeply restorative experience.
I also ran a beta program with a few individuals, exploring how a 3-month, 6-month, or year-long commitment could look—combining personal brand strategy, movement, and healing into a fully integrated experience. That process taught me so much, and with every step, I’ve felt the momentum building.
And on February 1, 2025, Feral Attuned turned 1. She’s still in her early days, still evolving, still becoming. But if this first year has shown me anything, it’s that this is bigger than a side hustle—it’s a movement. And I can’t wait to see where she goes next.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
New clients come from all over the place, and honestly, I’ve been incredibly lucky to have an audience that truly gets what Feral Attuned is about. Word-of-mouth has been huge—when people experience this work, they feel it, and they can’t help but share it with their friends. So the referral game is strong here.
Beyond referrals, partnering with like-minded businesses and events has been one of the most beautiful ways to connect with new clients. Whether it’s collaborating on an experience, hosting a workshop, or weaving Feral Attuned into a larger space of healing and creativity, these partnerships create the kind of organic, aligned growth that feels right.
It’s never about selling—it’s about finding the people who were already looking for this, even if they didn’t have the words for it yet.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Kjeldsen
Hi Jessica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
This is always such a tough question—not because I’m that cool, but because my story feels so all over the place. I’ve lived so many lives in this one precious one I’ve been lucky enough to receive—but here goes nothing and everything.
Feral Attuned wasn’t something I set out to create—it was something I lived into. My journey started over three decades ago, when I fell in love with movement—specifically dance. I was going to be a backup dancer for Janet Jackson, and honestly, I’m still holding out hope. Throughout my teens, I immersed myself in movement—whether through sports, dance, or just being outdoors. It was where I felt the most joy and the most connection to who I was meant to be.
At the same time, I started my professional career in the music industry, first as a marketing rep for WEA (Warner/Elektra/Atlantic), then moving into PR and touring at Columbia Records. I loved working in music, but—and this is aging me—streaming disrupted everything, and the traditional industry didn’t know how to pivot. The stubbornness, the resistance to evolution, it didn’t sit right with me. So I left.
I shifted into brand strategy and development, which took me to New York, working with some of the most influential cultural institutions. I’m still amazed I was lucky enough to touch those brands. Whether crafting a brand’s voice or curating an artist’s world, I became obsessed with the interplay of emotion, identity, and raw expression. I leaned into storytelling that wasn’t just polished—it was felt. Clever, sharp, unfiltered. The kind of messaging that moves people because it’s honest.
But after a while, something inside me stirred. There was more I was meant to explore. So I did what most would call reckless—I took off. I left my apartment, sold my belongings, and traveled the world for roughly two years. From Bolivia to Laos, Serbia to Croatia, I experienced. I moved, I listened, I watched how different cultures embodied themselves, how movement wasn’t just exercise but a language. And during those years, something dropped in.
At the time, I called it Dead Medium. It started as a branding and design studio, but my intention was to fuse movement, energy healing, and brand strategy into one. I knew there was a way to do it, but honestly? The movement and energy work were a harder sell than the branding. So Dead Medium ended up being more of a design studio—with a little Reiki and movement on the side.
But deep down, I knew. Working with movement, energy, and the body was the key to unlocking deeper truths. I saw how movement wasn’t just about physical fitness—it was a mirror, revealing where we hold ourselves back, where we’re disconnected, and where we crave freedom. And that’s where our personal brand truly lives.
I realized that the same principles that guide movement and energy healing—intuition, alignment, and authentic expression—are the foundation of the most powerful, magnetic brands. I started blending the work—bridging movement, holistic healing, and creative strategy. That’s when it clicked. Unlocking bold, transformative brand strategies starts with deep self-discovery. When visionaries truly understand themselves—their desires, their fears, their energetic blueprint—they can create brands that captivate, connect, and inspire.
That’s where Feral Attuned was born. The name itself carries the essence of this work—“Feral” speaks to the wild, instinctual nature we’ve been taught to suppress. “Attuned” is the balance—the ability to be deeply present, receptive, and in flow. Together, they represent a way of moving and living that is both grounded and untethered, structured yet free.
Building a brand isn’t just about aesthetics or messaging. It’s about embodiment—how you carry your mission, how you communicate your essence, how you move through the world as the fullest expression of your vision. When we remove the energetic blocks, when we trust our instincts, when we fully step into our own frequency—that’s when brands become unstoppable.
At its core, Feral Attuned is an invitation. An invitation to move, to feel, to reclaim. To find peace in your body, trust in your instincts, and step fully into the life—and the brand—you’re meant to create.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. And honestly, if it had been, I don’t think I’d be doing the work I’m doing now.
The road to Feral Attuned—to integrating movement, energy healing, and brand strategy—has been filled with bumps, sharp turns, and a few full-blown dead ends. I’ve had to pivot, backtrack, and sit in the discomfort of “what the hell am I even doing?” more times than I can count.
More questions than answers became the norm.
When I first started merging movement, energy healing, and brand strategy, it didn’t land. People wanted branding. The design. The pretty stuff. That’s what sells, right? The aesthetic. Strategy? Also an easy sell—because building a brand or business without strategy is kind of silly. But the idea that your body holds the key to your brand’s essence? That movement could unlock identity? That was met with skepticism at best, indifference at worst.
I had this big vision, but the world wasn’t quite ready for it. And trust me, I heard it all—everything from “We don’t need that woo-woo stuff” to “This is going to change the world.” Yet somehow, no one was buying. My brain hurt from the noise, the contradictions, the confusion.
My first attempt was Dead Medium—a branding and design studio with a little movement and Reiki on the side. It paid the bills for a while, but I knew it wasn’t it. The message wasn’t landing because I wasn’t fully in it yet. I was playing it safe, keeping the two worlds separate, instead of trusting that the right people would get it.
Dead Medium quickly became more of a side project altogether. I went back to office life—a 9-to-5 to fund my passion. I became a Brand Strategist/Movement Facilitator/Reiki Practitioner – just someone who happened to do these three things. And while that return to a more traditional career gave me answers, experience, and perspective, it still wasn’t it. And I knew it.
Then came the ego deaths—the moments where I had to admit that what I built wasn’t quite right. That I had to let go (again), start over (again), and trust the pivot (again).
Feral Attuned wasn’t something I just launched. It’s something I stumbled into, fought for, almost gave up on—then resurrected. It took time to fully trust that this work matters—that the connection between movement, energy, and branding isn’t just interesting, it’s necessary.
So no, the road hasn’t been smooth. But if it had been, I would’ve ended up with something too safe, too expected, too small. Instead, I built something wild, intuitive, and deeply powerful—because I had to live it first.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work at the intersection of movement, energy, and brand strategy, guiding visionaries, creatives, and founders to build brands that aren’t just aesthetically beautiful—but deeply embodied and energetically aligned.
Through Feral Attuned, I help people unlock bold, transformative brand strategies by diving into their own personal energy, movement, and intuitive expression. Because branding isn’t just visuals and messaging—it’s an extension of who you are, how you move, and how you show up in the world.
I specialize in identifying what’s blocking a brand from truly resonating—whether that’s fear, stagnation, or simply playing too small—and using a mix of strategy, storytelling, and deep self-discovery to create brands that don’t just exist but captivate, connect, and move people.
I’ve built something different. Something that fully integrates who I am, how I move, and what I believe in—instead of trying to fit into a box.
I’m proud of the moments when someone comes to me stuck—burnt out, uninspired, or unsure of their next step—and through our work together, they experience that massive shift. That click where they finally see who they are, their voice, their power in a way they never have before.
And honestly? I’m proud that I never settled for what was easy. That I kept pivoting, kept evolving, kept trusting that the right people would find this work.
Most brand strategists focus on the external—the logo, the colors, the copy. And while those things matter and are things I do help with, they’re just surface-level if the internal alignment isn’t there.
So what truly sets me apart is the way I fuse movement, energy work, and strategy to get to the heart of a brand.
Because if you’re disconnected from yourself, you’ll be disconnected from your brand. If you’re holding back in life, you’ll hold back in your messaging. If you don’t trust yourself, your audience won’t either.
I help people embody their brand—not just create it. I help them step into their power, their essence, their frequency so that their brand isn’t just something they build—it’s something they become.
That’s what makes this work different. That’s what makes it powerful.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a little bit of everything—and I felt everything. My superpower was my ability to connect with anyone. I wasn’t necessarily the “popular kid,” but I could move between groups effortlessly. I was just as much friends with the cool kids as I was with the band kids, the athletes, the quiet ones, and the ones who felt a little on the outside. I could find common ground with anyone, anywhere.
Later in life, through my work in Human Design, I would learn that I’m a Reflector—and that my ability to blend in wasn’t just a skill, it was my role. I was meant to mirror people back to themselves. But growing up? I didn’t understand why I could move so fluidly between groups, or why it seemed so obvious to me that everyone should be able to get along.
I was funny, loud, bold, and definitely “too much” for some people. I was adventurous—always down to try anything at least once (or twice). I climbed trees, played with Legos, and spent hours rollerblading (probably way too fast for my own good). I grew up watching MTV and VH1 (back when they actually played music) and would act out music videos like I was headlining a world tour.
I had this wild, creative energy that found its way into dance, writing, graphic design, and storytelling. I wanted to experience everything, push limits, and feel life fully.
And honestly? Not much has changed.
Movement reveals and heals
Have you ever stumbled in public and had to play it off with a stuttered step or an awkward smile? I have, and let me tell you, it's an experience that strips you bare. Whether it’s a latte-splashing tumble or an unceremonious cascade of cat litter, these moments force us to confront our vulnerabilities.
Yet, it’s in these very instances—where we’re most exposed—that we learn profound truths about ourselves. Movement, raw and unfiltered, acts as a mirror reflecting our internal state. It reveals where we’re held back, both physically and emotionally, and provides the immediate feedback necessary for growth.
By embracing the courage to move boldly, we tap into deeper self-awareness, emotional release, and the potential for transformative healing. In the process, we reconnect with our true selves, push past limitations, and become more vibrant and productive in our lives.
People can see you move and that is terrifying.
Have you ever tripped in public? Did you recover nicely or did your lose your morning latte and have your bag spill out all over the street? I’ve personally done both on more than a few occasions. More often than not I recover pretty well and I just have a few dramatic stutter steps to get through before I can resume my usual pace. But there have been a few that weren’t so graceful…
One such instance was when I lived in Brooklyn. I loved living in Brooklyn - it was tough, but definitely an experience I treasure. Now, I lived alone - yes an anomaly in New York. That was a non-negotiable for me, I must always have my own personal space - no roommates. I also had a beautiful tiny lil black bear of a cat named Fats which meant I was buying kitty litter and cat food pretty regularly. This was before Doordash and Instacart - yes this time did exist. On one such trip to Target, I had grabbed the 30lb box of litter and a few snacks and was beginning to walk down the stairs to the subway. Then I heard the train coming and didn’t want to miss it, so I picked up the pace, trying to ‘race’ down the stars. Now to say it was a mile worth of stairs is probably an exaggeration, but it felt that way after half way down I missed a step and fell down a few of them, hurting my ankle, throwing litter everywhere. No one stopped. No one even seemed to notice. No one did a double take, I didn’t hear anyone laugh. But now I am sitting on the floor of the stairs in the subway in Brooklyn. Gross. After about 5 minutes of catching my breath, rolling my ankle around and massaging my leg - I gather my purchases and my dignity and made my way down the to the subway.
What a quick slap in the face from my body - slow down, you are carrying literal big, awkward, heavy things. Pay attention to this task, not what is at the bottom of the stairs - you aren’t there yet.
The more you move, the more you get to know yourself - your whole self. Mind, Body and Spirit. But it demands a level of courage we seemed to have in abundance at three years old when we eagerly pleaded with our parents, “Watch me!” But somewhere along the way, we shifted from seeking attention to silently dreading it, fearing judgment if we make a mistake.
But really, what even is a mistake?
You know what happens when you make a “mistake?” You get stronger. Your brain jumps into action, building new neural pathways - pathways that are vital to learning and improvement. With each attempt, you gradually transition from fear to triumph, strengthening your skills along the way.
With over two decades of experience as a movement facilitator, I can tell you that nothing paralyzes a class quite like the simple ask, “Take the next few moments to yourself and explore the movement on your own.” Can you imagine? Someone giving you permission to move however you please for a few minutes—it’s enough to make anyone feel exposed.
And believe me, there have been countless occasions where I’ve wanted to shrink into the shadows or conveniently take a water break during these moments of freedom.
But let me emphasize, it’s in these moments that you rediscover your true self. It is not lost on me, the incredible amount of bravery it requires to step into a new space, especially one where you’ll be exploring movement. Yet, it’s precisely in these moments that you have the opportunity to shape your own unique movement vocabulary.
Movement is a Mirror
Movement shows us exactly where we are holding back, where we are restrained, where we are uncomfortable. It acts as a mirror, reflecting our internal state and revealing the areas we need to address. When we move, we confront our fears and insecurities head-on, allowing us to break free from their grasp.
Through movement, we gain insights into our physical and emotional limitations. We discover where we are stuck, both literally and metaphorically. It’s through this exploration that healing begins. Movement becomes a powerful tool for self-discovery and transformation, guiding us towards clarity and revelation. But how does it work, and why is it so powerful?
Physical Tension and Restraint
When you start moving, your body immediately reveals areas of tension and stiffness. These physical manifestations are often tied to emotional or mental states. For instance, tight shoulders might indicate stress, while a rigid spine could suggest fear or the need for control. Movement allows you to notice these tensions, making you aware of where you might be holding back in life.
Emotional Release
Movement often stirs emotions that are stored in the body. When you engage in movement practices, you might find certain actions evoke strong feelings. For example, ever feel like you might cry during Pigeon Pose in yoga, and you don’t know why? Hip-opening exercises can release deep-seated emotions related to safety and security. By moving through these discomforts, you start to process and release the emotional baggage that holds you back.
Mental Awareness
As you move, you also become aware of your mental patterns. Are there movements that make you feel self-conscious or inadequate? Do you judge yourself harshly for not being able to perform a certain way? These mental barriers become evident through movement, highlighting areas where your mindset might be restricting your growth.
Exploration of Boundaries
When you explore different types of movement, you push the boundaries of your comfort zone. This exploration often uncovers areas where you feel restrained. For example, if you’ve never danced freely in public, doing so might reveal social anxieties or fears of judgment. Recognizing these boundaries is the first step to breaking through them.
Feedback Loop *This one is my favorite
Movement provides immediate feedback. If something feels uncomfortable or painful, it’s a sign that something needs attention. This feedback loop helps you understand your body’s needs and limitations. It also encourages you to listen to your body, fostering a deeper connection and awareness.
Vulnerability and Courage
Movement, especially in a group setting, demands vulnerability. It requires you to be seen and judged, just as you are. This vulnerability can be intimidating, but it also builds courage. The more you move, the more you expose yourself to these feelings, gradually building resilience and confidence.
The Path to Healing and Clarity
By engaging in movement, you create a space for self-discovery and healing. Here’s how movement facilitates this process:
Self-Awareness: You become acutely aware of your physical, emotional, and mental states. This awareness is the foundation for change.
Emotional Processing: As you move, you release stored emotions, freeing yourself from past traumas and anxieties.
Mental Shift: Movement challenges your mental barriers, encouraging a shift in mindset and opening up new possibilities.
Physical Release: Regular movement helps to release physical tension, promoting relaxation and well-being.
Connecting to Your Feminine Archetypes - the Feral Experience
Incorporating movement into our lives allows us to connect with our feminine archetypes. These archetypes represent different aspects of our being, each with its unique strengths and wisdom. By tapping into these archetypes, we can unlock our true potential and reach our goals.
✨ The Maiden: Embrace curiosity and playfulness. Move with a sense of wonder and exploration. Let go of self-judgment and rediscover the joy of movement.
Movement example: When was the last time you went skipping? Connect with your inner child and play a game of tag, or skip through your house for a few moments - you’ll be laughing in no time.
✨ The Mother: Nurture and care for yourself through gentle, compassionate movement. Honor your body’s needs and create a safe space for healing.
Movement example: Use tools like foam rollers or massage balls to gently release tension and promote relaxation. This practice supports self-care and helps maintain physical well-being. (I love my acupuncture mat. Pro tip: I use it when meditating)
✨ The Wild Woman: Express your raw, untamed energy. Move with passion and intensity. Break free from societal expectations and embrace your authentic self.
Movement example: Grab a prop - hula hoops or ribbon dancers are great way to challenge yourself to explore moving freely and creatively.
✨ The Wise Woman: Tap into your inner wisdom and intuition. Move with grace and purpose. Allow your body to guide you towards clarity and insight.
Movement Exercise: Finding balance between breath and body - a walking meditation in nature or even balancing on one foot while brushing your teeth or doing the dishes - you don’t have to go full tree pose, but might be a place to start.
What does it mean to be FERAL
The FERAL experience harnesses the power of movement to unlock and release trapped energy, creating new pathways for personal growth and productivity. Movement is not just physical exertion; it’s a powerful tool for shifting and transforming energy within the body and mind - I mean what did we just get done talking about?
When we engage in intentional movement, we help release stagnant energy and emotional blocks, which allows for the creation of new neural pathways. This process fosters greater mental clarity and emotional resilience. As energy flows more freely through the body, it opens up space for fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, leading to increased productivity and a more dynamic engagement with life.
By tapping into the diverse energies of the feminine archetypes—whether through the playful exploration of the Maiden, the wise introspection of the Sage, the untamed expression of the Wild Woman, or the nurturing care of the Mother—the FERAL experience can activate and channel inherent power.
This not only facilitates deeper self-awareness but also empowers you to embrace your full potential and enhance your productivity in all areas of life. Through this dynamic interplay of movement and energy work, FERAL guides you toward a more vibrant, connected, and fulfilling existence.
Are you ready?
Movement over Exercise
HUH? Isn’t movement exercise and exercise movement? Yes. Yes it is. But there is a subtle and profound difference.
That difference is intention. It’s what transforms it from closing the loop, hitting your splot points or reaching your activity goal into a profound practice of self-discovery and healing. When we move with purpose and mindfulness, we tune into our bodies, uncovering hidden tensions and emotional blocks. This focused attention allows us to release stored energy, facilitating emotional breakthroughs and fostering a deeper connection with ourselves. By setting a clear intention, we guide our movement to not just improve our physical health, but also to unlock new levels of emotional clarity and well-being.
For many, exercise is a one more to-do on a daily schedule. It has become a requirement, a box to check to validate our self-worth. It’s a conversation topic - are you a morning or evening gym person? Group fitness or personal trainer? And most importantly… where do you workout. All of these questions are related to status - what can you afford, not just in regards to money - but in time as well.
Then there’s the intensity. How hard is your workout? How much can you lift, bro? Yoga doesn’t even look like yoga anymore - it’s Yoga Sculpt, it’s Hot Yoga, it’s Power Flow. Weight lifting is now HIIT training, Cross Fit. If you didn’t sweat did you even workout? Most are equating the intensity of the workout to how effective it is.
The problem is, when the results don’t happen. Then comes the confusion. I don’t get it? I work out consistently? My workouts are challenging… what am I doing wrong? Working out 3-5 days a week at such a consistent high intensity builds up so much tension in the body that it has trouble relaxing because it’s always prepared for the fight.
Now, don’t get me wrong – I LOVE a tough workout. And I still do partake in a HIIT workout (every Friday morning to be exact). But I’m evolving. I enter into these high intensity classes with more attention and awareness. I go slower, I check in with myself - I know the instructor said to put my treadmill at a 6% incline, but my body is saying no (no through difficulty finding a good breathing rhythm, or my calf tightened up really fast). There are signs to back off and slow down that we are all missing because we are taught to push through, challenge yourself.
New Challenge: Instead of beating yourself up and leaving a workout class feeling depleted–slow down. Notice the subtle hints your body is giving you to back off or go harder - you will leave the class more energized and focused. Promise.
Shifting my focus from exercise to movement has yielded results faster and, more importantly, results that stick around because they complement my body instead of battling against it.
The Truth About Movement
Sustainable results and true vitality come from listening to our bodies, moving with purpose, and nurturing every muscle and joint with care. It’s not about pushing ourselves to the brink of exhaustion but rather about cultivating a deeper connection with ourselves and our physicality.
When we slow down and tune into the subtleties of our movements, what we unlock is groundbreaking:
🌱 Increased Body Awareness and Proprioception Movement helps us become more aware of our bodies. It enhances our ability to sense where our body parts are in space, leading to better balance and coordination.
🌱 Reduced Risk of Injury By moving mindfully and with proper form, we significantly lower the risk of injuries. Listening to our bodies prevents us from pushing too hard or too fast, which is crucial for long-term health.
🌱 Enhanced Flexibility, Mobility, and Joint Health Intentional movement improves our flexibility and mobility. It keeps our joints healthy and lubricated, making everyday activities easier and more comfortable.
🌱 Greater Mindfulness and Stress Reduction Synchronizing our breath with our movements fosters mindfulness. This practice reduces stress and promotes a sense of calm and well-being.
🌱 Improved Functional Strength Movement builds functional strength that translates into our daily lives. It enhances our ability to perform everyday tasks with ease and supports longevity.
The Science of Energy in the Body
It's essential to recognize that our bodies are not just physical entities but also energetic systems. This concept is rooted in both ancient traditions and modern science.
Movement moves energy by engaging our physical, emotional, and energetic systems in a holistic dance of transformation. It stretches and compresses the fascia, stimulates neuroplasticity, triggers hormonal changes, and balances ancient energetic pathways. By incorporating mindful movement into our lives, we can unlock stored emotions, release tension, and experience profound emotional breakthroughs.
1. The Fascia Network Fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds and penetrates muscles, bones, and organs. It plays a crucial role in transmitting mechanical forces and maintaining structural integrity. Recent research has shown that fascia is also involved in the body's energetic system. When we move, we stretch and compress the fascia, which helps to release stored tension and energy.
2. Neuroplasticity and Emotional Release Movement stimulates the nervous system and promotes neuroplasticity—the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections. This process is vital for emotional healing. Physical movement can activate specific neural pathways associated with emotions, helping to release and rewire old patterns of emotional response.
3. Hormonal and Chemical Changes Movement triggers the release of endorphins, serotonin, and other neurotransmitters that elevate mood and reduce stress. These chemical changes can help shift stagnant emotional energy, promoting a sense of well-being and emotional balance.
Rewriting the Narrative
By taking the time to connect with our bodies, listen to their cues, and move with mindfulness, we unlock a world of possibilities for greater health and vitality. Whether it’s through somatic practices, functional exercises, or simply slowing down our pace, every intentional movement is a gift to ourselves. Let your body lead the way to emotional freedom and holistic well-being.
Let’s rewrite the movement narrative and celebrate the beauty of intentional movement together!
Your manifestation looks like greed
Did I stutter? Manifestation has shifted from a practice of personal growth to one of greed, focusing on quick riches and luxury. Vision boards filled with material desires and masterminds promising instant wealth overshadow the true essence of manifestation: aligning thoughts with hard work.
Did I stutter?
Money Manifestation Course: 12 weeks to 3x the Income, How I Manifested My Dream Job, 6 Figure Launch Codes, 6 Steps to 6 Figures, The Fast-Track to Manifesting Your Income Goals and so the list goes of just some of the masterminds/online courses you can purchase.
I bet Miss Cleo is laughing so hard right now. If you aren’t familiar with Miss Cleo, do yourself a favor and enjoy this Best Of moment. The short of it, is Miss Cleo was an actress posing as a psychic on the Psychic Readers Network and was sued for fraud - there’s a HBO Max documentary on the whole wild ride - take it.
But just like the Get Out of Debt Now ads on late night TV (if you are old enough to remember ads, or aren’t springing for the ad-free experience), the way manifestation is showing up today is a fast-track to disappointment.
TLDR: By some loose definition, and this is definitely loose — manifestation is a holistic approach to achieving your dreams by combining positive thinking, belief, and intentional action. But right now, I’ve noticed the concept of manifestation has evolved into this commercialized trend that focuses more on the positive thinking and belief, and less on the action. You know… the work.
No one wants to work anymore.
The Vision Board Illusion
Now don’t misunderstand - I love a vision board just as much as the next person. I’ve loved them since I was 14 years old and called it a collage. I would bust out my YM, Teen People, Seventeen, Alternative Press, RollingStone, Dance Spirit - love a magazine. My collages were next level bad ass. I made collages all the time, whenever the mood stuck me. It didn’t have to align with the beginning of a new year or a new moon - I just created when I was called to.
Trust, I know manifestation is more than collages. I do. We got affirmations and gratitude lists, journalling and meditations — But just like that morning routine - manifestation is starting to look a lot like habit stacking and God forbid we forget to do our daily affirmations, cuz then our whole vision will crumble and how will I ever get that 6-figure launch so I can afford my dream home on the beach?
OMG… does this sound like a first-world problem to anyone else?
With the advent of Pinterest and Instagram… these platforms practically create your vision for you. They are flooded with aesthetically pleasing boards complete with everything you could ever want… luxury cars, sprawling mansions, the designer label bag and shoes - you know all the THINGS you could ever want.
While there's nothing inherently wrong with aspiring for financial success, the problem is when these boards are created with the expectation that visualization alone will make it so.
Manifestation, in its truest form, is not about dreaming but about aligning one's actions with those dreams. The law of attraction teaches that like attracts like, meaning that positive actions and hard work are as crucial as positive thoughts. Yet, the current trend emphasizes the former at the expense of the latter.
The Mastermind Mirage
We live in the internet. The future is now. Everyone is an expert. Yet everyone is stalled with decision paralysis. With so much information on the internet, people are constantly searching for the quick fix, the right answer, just tell me and I’ll do it mentality. And Manifesting Masterminds are cashing in.
Mastermind groups and courses that promise five and six-figure incomes in record time have proliferated, capitalizing on the allure of quick success. These programs often market themselves with testimonials of overnight success stories, creating an unrealistic expectation that wealth and success can be effortlessly achieved. The reality is that sustainable success requires time, dedication, and resilience.
The appeal of these masterminds lies in their promise of a shortcut—a way to bypass the grind and fast-track success. This mindset can lead to disappointment and disillusionment when the promised results don't materialize. It undermines the value of genuine effort and the growth that comes from overcoming challenges.
Basically, your manifestation has already been set up to fail when your mind is set on how you can achieve your desires quickly, with minimal effort on your part.
There is no such thing as passive income. There’s just not.
The Forgotten Art of Hard Work
At its core, manifestation is about more than just material wealth. It's about self-improvement, personal growth, and aligning with one's true purpose. The commercialization of manifestation has stripped it of these deeper, more meaningful elements.
The narrative that "thoughts become things" should not overshadow the importance of the journey itself. The process of working towards a goal, facing setbacks, and persevering is what builds character and resilience.
Look at me! I’ve built a lot of character over the years.
Hard work fucking sucks.
It’s late nights.
It’s early mornings.
It’s saying no.
It’s being misunderstood.
It’s getting uncomfortable.
It’s choosing yourself when no one else will.
It’s believing in your idea when no one else does.
It’s character building.
It’s fucking tough.
But you know what else it is…
It’s fucking brilliant. It’s the best high. It’s inspiring. It’s the biggest smile on your face. It hurts your heart just a little bit (well a lot) cuz you think it might burst from pure joy… you don’t know if your having a heart attack, anxiety attack or if this is what happiness is. It’s a very confusing, but immensely rewarding feeling. Is this pride?
Go FERAL with Manifestation (include the work):
Let’s balance dreaming with some work, shall we? What do I mean?
Be Honest. Are These Your Dreams?: How often do you sit still and listen to yourself? No TV, no tiny internet (what I call my cellphone), no music (this one is a struggle for me) and really reflect on what you want. Or are you just listening to the collective want and think because everyone else has a side hustle you should too? Or just because everyone else wants a house on the beach you do too? Do you even like the beach? Or want to own a house? Pro-Tip: Dreams don’t have to be material.
Do. Just Do: Complement your vision board, your affirmations with an action plan. Be reasonable. Break down your goals into manageable steps and commit to working towards them daily. And I do mean daily - we are moving pebbles here, not mountains. Really just start. If you are waiting for the perfect time, you are going to die waiting. And while you are waiting, someone else is going to pick up that idea and run wild with it… be the one who dares to run wild. You might not get what you want, but you won’t regret it. You’ll regret wondering what could have been or what might have happened.
Be Better Than Scrolling: Engage in practices that promote personal development - some of my favorites are journaling, meditation, and taking classes (at the gym, at a local art studio, etc). Focus on you and becoming the best version of you, not just on the things you want - those will come. Well, the real truth is once you start focusing on you, you don’t really want those things much anymore cuz they probably don’t align with you - they align with everyone else’s expectation of what success looks like. What does success look like for you?
Be Skeptical of Quick Fixes: Approach mastermind groups and courses with a critical eye. Look for programs that emphasize long-term growth and sustainable success rather than quick wins.
Take a Mentor Out (I like tea): Learn. Challenge yourself. Find someone or a group of someone’s who you want to learn from. Look for your community, mentors, the people who will challenge you and celebrate you - those are the groups to align with. Find someone who’s story resonates with you. Someone who you aspire to be like. They might have a program- enroll in it, or see if they offer an intro meeting, they might not - reach out anyway, see if they like coffee or tea, and ask them if you could have a bit of their time to pick their brain.
Just a one last thought–
Dreams are not meant to be handed to us on a silver platter; they are meant to inspire us to reach higher, work harder, and be better.
so feral instagram SUSPENDED me
Curious about life after Instagram? Dive in as I navigate digital exile and come out the other side, or at least am on my way, with new revelations.
Ah, Tuesday evening, just as I was packing up my sanctuary of chaos (otherwise known as my laptop and my eclectic collection of drink bottles: water, kombucha, chai tea – the holy trinity), I decided to grace Instagram with my presence.
My post that day?
Nothing groundbreaking.
Just another installment of my “My Morning” series. You know, the one where I show how my mornings are as wild and unpredictable as a feral cat in a thunderstorm. That day’s image was an ‘I Voted’ sticker. Why? Because, 1. I actually did vote, and 2. It featured the most adorable Gila Monster (side note: Isn’t it hilariously ironic that a voting sticker features a venomous creature? Politics, am I right?). My morning was simple: meditation, cacao, journaling, and maybe, just maybe, I managed to shower. Then, I posted my “Song to Get FERAL To” – Shaggy’s Mr. Boombastic, a timeless anthem for the ratchet at heart. I popped in a little later that day to promoted an event from my office – a photography session and email signature popup. Scandalous, I know.
Fast forward to me winding down my day, eager for a casual scroll, only to be met with a big black screen announcing my suspension from Instagram.
WHAT? For WHY?
In a moment of sheer disbelief, I hit APPEAL. I didn’t even read the reason. Now, whenever I open Instagram, I’m greeted by a note saying, “You submitted an appeal on July 9, 2024.”
Day 2 of this digital exile, and I’m still in the dark.
I wish I could say I had a perfectly normal reaction to this, but in reality my first gut response was, “OH! I did something wrong… I disappointed someone… I am in trouble.” For a split second, I immediately was worried that everyone would know and I was going to some sort of Internet Jail… those exist right?
My body responded in the same way it did when I got pulled over for the first time (ironically I was driving home from voting in my first presidential election… so maybe politics is the theme here). My body, shaking, involuntarily shaking - now this only lasted maybe 30-60seconds, but I still had to sit for a moment and reflect.
Why did I revert back to a child?
Were my parents really going to be that disappointed in me because Instagram suspended me? Do they even know what Instagram is?
Also, WHY? Who could I have possibly offended? Am I mad at them or feel for them… yes and yes!
Next came the dilemma:
Do I tell people? Will they understand? Will they judge me?
A wave of shame washed over me. In the end, I told a few trusted souls. Their reactions were predictably, “WTF?” followed by, “WHY?”
I must have checked my account at least 8-10 times that night. Still suspended.
In the morning when I woke up. Right before I left for the office. Still suspended.
At work. Before my Turn Up class. Before my epsom salt bath. Still suspended.
As I write this, my Instagram fate remains undecided. But guess what? This whole ordeal has been enlightening.
Here’s what I’ve learned since being ousted from the cool kids club:
I use my phone a lot less. Turned out any time I picked up my phone, which was a lot, my immediate, mindless action was to do a scroll through Instagram.
I use Instagram to connect with friends more than any other app. It’s almost like I forgot my phone could also make PHONE calls. (A fact my husband never tires of reminding me.)
I launched FERAL about 6 months ago, relying on Instagram for all things marketing. Oops. These platforms are so fragile and can vanish anytime. What then?
I have two FERAL popups coming up. How will I spread the word? Turns out, creativity is my true superpower, not social media posting.
And finally, no one cares.

FERAL: THE WILD WOMAN
JULY 25TH • 6:15PM
The Wild Woman Feral Experience is just that. WILD. Untamed. Raw. Through breath, voice and body — it's a journey of exploration where we confront our inner battles and let out our fiercest cries.
Moments after I pushed PUBLISH, Instagram reached out to let me know they had made a mistake and my account had been reinstated.
Bets on if these lessons bear fruit?
FUck Your Morning Routine
Morning routines are often promoted as essential for productivity, but their rigidity can lead to stress, anxiety, and burnout. While healthy habits like meditation and exercise are beneficial, adhering strictly to these routines can create unrealistic expectations and disappointment when disrupted. Personalized schedules that align with individual peak times for focus and energy are more effective. Discovering and embracing one's unique needs, such as understanding Human Design, can lead to greater productivity and well-being. This approach emphasizes flexibility over a one-size-fits-all routine, helping individuals stay true to themselves and avoid burnout.
Morning routines are often hailed as the holy grail of a productive day. Makes sense—most elements people add to their morning routines are healthy habits: meditation, soaking up some sun, avoiding screens, making a nutritious breakfast, smashing a workout, etc. The idea being, if you start your day with these "right" habits, the rest of your day will fall into place. Simple enough.
But then people start binging on good habits and now we’re habit stacking. If getting up early and working out is good, then working out plus meditating must be better. Add in a healthy breakfast and a morning skincare routine, and you're four times as likely to crush the day ahead, right? But what happens when you sleep in, miss that alarm, don’t feel well, are traveling, or just plain don’t have it one morning?
There's growing evidence that these morning routines can actually set you up for failure. Why? The rigidity. Many adopt these highly structured habits, thinking a strict sequence will boost their efficiency and success. But this rigidity often leads to stress and anxiety, especially when the routine gets disrupted. God forbid life happens right. Did we not learn anything from Jurassic Park… life finds a way… but I digress. Instead of giving a sense of control, a too-rigid routine can create disappointment if not perfectly executed, undermining the productivity it aims to enhance.
If you follow me on Instagram, you'll see I post my 'routine' every morning. And guess what? Every morning looks different. It didn’t always used to be that way though. Don’t get me wrong, I used to jump on every new trend promising to improve my life. But trying to meet the expectations of these routines took me further from myself, and ultimately these routines made me feel gross and even more lost.
Why? Because I wasn’t listening to what I needed. I was following CEOs of companies I don’t want to work for, influencers with questionable agendas, and success stories that didn’t align with my definition of success. All of this led me down a road of unrealistic expectations, taking me further and further away from who I am.
Forcing myself into a routine misaligned with my natural rhythms led to burnout and decreased performance. Research shows productivity and creativity aren't just about getting up early (thank the Universe) but about understanding your peak times for focus and energy. A one-size-fits-all morning routine can be counterproductive. Personalized schedules that adapt to individual needs and lifestyles are key. Trust me.
It may have taken me 30-some-odd years to realize this – but I do things differently, sometimes a lot differently. For me, learning about my Human Design was a game-changer. As a Reflector, I don’t thrive in structure—I change every day. This is why routines never stick - and I do mean any routine… more on that later.
If you are struggling with the morning routine of it all - here’s a few things do that might help you (pro-tip: you don’t even have to do any of this in the morning):
First, throw routine out the door. This is your morning moment, your morning ritual, or just your fucking morning.
Second, before you jump out of bed — take a breath, keep your eyes closed or at least soft, this doesn’t need to be some big dramatic yoga breath, just pause for a moment to see how you are feeling and ask yourself what do I want to do next? Something will drop in, and sometimes it is finish that cake for breakfast (a thing I did this morning).
Third, do what drops in - if it’s lay in bed for a few more minutes do it, if it’s go outside and enjoy the sun do that, if it’s hug your kids and pet your dog do that! There is no wrong answer - so stop worrying about doing it wrong, there’s no such thing as doing it right.
Fourth, look into your Human Design - you’ll be surprised.
If Human Design isn’t your deal - Myers Briggs, Enneagram, Numerology, Astrology, etc. - pick one they all have recommendations for your ‘type’ - and then give it a try… adopt one or two things if they feel right - and when they don’t, stop. Don’t keep doing the thing cuz a pin on Pinterest or a TikTok told ya to. You’re better than TikTok.
Not a morning person - FANTASTIC - I wasn’t either, then I worked for a global company where I had 5a (even a 4a) meetings and now I am awake, in the morning - it’s not the worst, surprisingly. But your morning could easily be your evening. Nothing about this is limited to the morning - wanna do some of it in the middle of the day, hells yes! Meditate at 3p, go for a walk at 7:30p, take a bath, do whatever is coming through - and you know what sometimes that’s watch the new 3-part docuseries on Netflix with no breaks.
If you're looking to connect more deeply with yourself and transform your morning, I invite you to explore FERAL. Each session includes a grounding ritual, archetypal movement and Reiki integration.
Let go of rigid structures and embrace a practice that fosters inner peace, balance, and self-awareness. Join me on this journey to unlock your full potential with intention and clarity.
